Dating in sobriety
I can honestly say that I have a great time at any event, especially because I’m not drinking. So adding that confusion to the emotional roller coaster of learning to live life sober could be dangerous if you’re not ready. No reason to force yourself into uncomfortable situations.I waited a year, not because I’m smart, but because I felt too crazy to even consider dating someone else. If you’re feeling pressured from yourself or others, take a deep breath and a step back. It’s humbling for me to remember that, but it’s true.
Some recovery groups recommend that people in recovery don’t enter into a romantic relationship until they’ve been in a program for a year.
And dating in sobriety is even harder – but many have done it, and many will continue to walk through the fear to find their potential partner.
No matter if we begin by swiping left or right on a dating app or try meeting someone at a social function – the fear of vulnerability and rejection can keep us stuck.
You can truly only love someone to the extent that you love yourself.
